I read the news today, oh boy …

Forty-two years ago, when I got started in the news business, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.

There was nothing more exciting one could do than what I was doing.

I wouldn’t have traded jobs with anyone. I mean that. It was fun, exhilarating and important – even if it didn’t pay very well.

In 2017, I’m not so sure any more.

Don’t get me wrong. I still believe journalism is something of a divine mission when practiced correctly. And I get some satisfaction out in the role I have as a pioneer in the alternate press.

For me the problem is reading the news.

It’s deeply disturbing. It’s a freak show. It sometimes turns my stomach.

I’ll give you an example. But click on the link only if you can handle something deeply upsetting.

It’s a story from the London Daily Mail headlined: “Transgender man and father-of-two adopted children happily announces he is pregnant with his gay husband, a year after suffering a miscarriage.”

I literally have nightmares about stories like this. What does it say about the world we’ve become? How much longer will God allow this kind of sick, self-indulgent, sinful behavior to continue? How long will we tolerate it? How long will medical professionals participate in it? Does anyone ever think about the children produced in these carnival sideshow relationships?

Call me intolerant, but I don’t want to look at it. I don’t want to be around it. I don’t want children to see it, let alone be brought into the world like twisted social experiments. I don’t want to cover it. I don’t even want to think about it.

But I’m a news guy. And it’s this kind of news we are increasingly surrounded with.

The world has gone mad.

Why?

Because we forgot about God, as Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn once said ever so accurately and poignantly about the abomination that was the Soviet Union.

Am I wrong, or is what we are seeing even worse in some way?

I know the cataclysmic death toll wrought by Communism was staggering. But there’s a different kind of genocidal activity taking place around the world, and particularly in the West, right now. We’re destroying our very soul in this psychopathic fantasy that we can be whatever we choose to be, ignoring the way God created us.

It’s as if there are millions of little Stalin monsters out there attempting to remake their own worlds in their own warped imaginations.

Has anyone else come to the same conclusion I have reached? This is unsustainable. I hate to borrow a favored term of the so-called “progressives” who have engineered this Barnum and Bailey circus act in which the Western world has chosen to commit cultural suicide. But that’s what it is – unsustainable, and evil beyond words.

There’s no amount of lipstick you can put on this pig that will change reality.

Maybe you wonder why I share this.

The answer is: I’m sharing my heart right now.

I’m a newsman. I’m one of the very few daily columnists in the world. I can choose to write about anything I like in my job, and that is one of the things that keeps me plugging away. But it’s not as fun and rewarding an assignment as it once was – when the world, though always insane, was a little brighter, with slightly more hope and truth.

This is not truth. This is a lie. And when I see so much of the world buying into a lie, it grieves my spirit.

No worries, though. I got it out of my system. I’ve purged these demons so I can sleep tonight. And I will be back tomorrow to carry on with the world the Good Lord has given me.
